Amidst the large number of violinists he stood out in being one of those rare artists who chose to excel in two styles of music rather than side with one. He performed brilliantly both the North Indian (Hindustani) as well the South Indian (Carnatic) styles of music. This talent of making north meet south was passed on to his equally gifted son Guru Shri Shekar Tanjorkar. He not only has imbibed the glorious legacy of the Tanjore (tanjavur) gharana, but also expanded it and widened its horizons with his natural creativity and passion for music. With a shining experience of numerous concerts, workshops, tours and recordings with some of the most renowned artists and institutes, he is a musician with a unique stature and standing in his own might.In the Carnatic style of music, he adapts the Gamakas and he adheres to Gayaki style in the Hindustani style of music.
